[July-06] The UKBG/Sputnik National Competition - The Final Heat was held at Salvatore at FIFTY, London.

FIRST PLACE - £5,000 and to represent the UK in the International Bartending Association Final in Greece in October

• 40ml cranberry juice
• 40ml guava juice
• Garnish:  potato rose and rose leaf

SECOND PLACE - £2,000

'Saint Basil’s'

• 40ml Sputnik Basil
• 5 cardamom pods
• 10ml lychee liqueur
• 90ml pineapple juice
• 3 fresh basil leaves
• Garnish:  fresh basil

THIRD PLACE - £1,000

Jamie Stephenson from Shaker UK

'Petushka'

• 35ml Sputnik Basil
• 15ml Volare green apple
• 15ml lemon juice
• 45ml Bundaberg ginger beer
• 2 bar spoons Monin vanilla
• Garnish: fanned apple and vanilla pod

Other awards:

Best Garnish was won by Andrea Rinaldi of Selfridges & Co, London.

Best Technical was won by Andy Pearson of Roast, London.

The twenty one competitors were selected from events held throughout the UK. Was it fun? Both competitors and supporters all enjoyed themselves, and the feedback from the contestants was that they were happy with the way the event was managed, and from Sputnik's point of view, ". . . we were very pleased with the turnout at the competition and the after party, " said James Staring on behalf of Russian Vodka House.

Congratulations to the winner Antonio who recently undertook the UKBG bartender training courses in London, levels 1 & 2, where he gained a 'Pass with Distinction' grade with a 92% pass and puts his success partly down to what he had learnt on the course.
