2006 Mattoni World Non Alcoholic Cocktail Championship in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
The Grand Pupp Hotel in Karlovy Vary (where the casino scenes from the movie Casino Royale were shot) was the venue for the Mattoni World Non Alcoholic Cocktail Championship held late October. The UKBG's Salvatore Calabrese was one of the judges.“We look for drinks that are different, balanced in flavour, and that reflect the element of water well,” Salvatore said. "The standard was very high, which was fantastic."
Winner Mickael Perron
The UK’s representative, bartender Mickael Perron, won the first prize of $10,000. London area's Luca Cordiglieri and colleague Gianni Albanese also competed in the intensely fought cocktail shake-up.
With representatives from 32 countries, there was a mix of flavours, such as blueberry, raspberry and mango, in the cocktails. The drinks each had to be presented in a goblet-shaped glass, which offered an opportunity to make extra-special fruit garnishes. Competition here was intense.
