The United Kingdom Bartenders Guild's Education Course is the ONLY course held in the United Kingdom recognised by the International Bartenders' Association.

The courses each provide the delegates with the skills and knowledge needed for further success in the bar industry. The education course follows the syllabus set by the IBA and is recognised by all 55 IBA member countries.
Courses are held at regular intervals throughout the year. A maximum of 12 people are accepted for each course to ensure the quality of one-on-one teaching.

Level 1 (Foundation Course) in detail:
The cost is £250 per participant (includes 1 year UKBG membership, all beverages used for practical exercise, all course papers and certification). The course is run over three consecutive days .
A UKBG certificate of attendance is issued for those who attend the full 3 days of the course.
*The three-day education course includes half a day certificated whisky training delivered by Regis Lemaitre.

- Types of bars
- Classic and modern cocktails
- The enhanced role of the bartender
- Equipment, glassware and machinery
- Classification of mixed drinks
- Basic product knowledge
- Classification of products

Registration for Level 1 (Foundation Course)
Please print the application form below, fill it in accurately, and send it with your cheque for £125 deposit (made payable to the UKBG) and the balance of £125 is payable on or before the start of the course.
A receipt will be issued by return mail. Deposits are returnable if 14 days notice of non-attendance is given. We regret we are unable to accept credit/debit card payments or cash.

Level 2 (Advanced Course) will feature the following:
£400 per participant (includes all beverages, morning and afternoon tea or coffee, all course papers and certification plus one year's membership of the UKBG). It is run over 5 days (not consecutive) at the same Edinburgh venue.
Graded joint UKBG/IBA/College certificates are issued only to those that successfully pass a practical and multiple-choice examination at the end of the course. A certificate of attendance only is not issued for this course.

- Nosing and blind whisky training
- A minimum test result of 60% is required for a 'Pass' certificate.
- A test result of between 80% and 89% gains a 'Pass with Credit' certificate.
- A test result of 90% or more gains a 'Pass with Distinction' certificate.
A typical day on both courses starts at 10.00am with a series of lectures, including overhead projection displays and perhaps a video presentation. After lunch the participants are requested to produce a range of classic and modern cocktails (under the supervision of experienced course tutors). We use genuine quality products in the preparation of our cocktails. (Coloured water is never used.)
Invited guest speakers from the world's leading spirits companies attend on some afternoons during the Level 2 course, offering product knowledge and the opportunity to taste their product. Guest bartenders are also invited to participate and impart their knowledge and skills to the participants at this course.
Our day (on both courses) finishes at 4.30pm. Participants are frequently requested to do some extra study in preparation for the next day.
